Sheep Shearing Websites: Will You Make the Trip for a Small Flock?
Are a few ewes worth the drive? Do they need to be penned and dry when you pull in? Your website can answer both before the owner picks up the phone.
Do you offer small flock sheep shearing?
Say whether you take a few sheep, larger flocks or both. Mention rams and lambs too, if you shear them. If a small job carries a minimum charge, say so where the owner asks for a date.
Is there mobile sheep shearing near me?
Put your route on the page, county by county, with roughly when you reach each one. Add the phone number you take bookings on.
Some owners live a county or two past your route. Tell them whether it's still worth a call.
Do you take bookings for shearing sheep before lambing?
Ask the owner when the ewes are due to lamb. If your dates fill early, say when owners should call. Say who calls back to set the day.
NDSU's November 2023 lambing release carries advice from Travis Hoffman, the NDSU and University of Minnesota Extension sheep specialist. It reads: "Now is a good time to connect with your shearer and determine a shearing date." Your page can give the owner a direct way to do that.
What should the farm do when preparing sheep for shearing?
Put your own preparation list on the page, the one you'd read to a new customer over the phone. Say when you want the sheep penned, and where.
The American Sheep Industry Association has a preparation sheet for flock owners. For the days just before shearing, it says "wet or damp wool should not be shorn." If rain could leave the flock wet, tell the owner how you decide whether the visit goes ahead.
Who provides the pens, shearing board and power?
If you haul a shearing trailer with its own pens, say so. Give its length, and the owner will know where to park it. If the farm supplies the pens and floor, say how much floor you need. Say whether it has to be under cover.
Say whether you plug into the farm's power or run a generator. A phone photo of the barn or shed can settle the setup before you drive out.
Who handles the wool while you shear?
Tell the owner if a wool handler comes with you. Say whether you skirt, sort or bag the fleeces, or leave that to the farm. Then say whether the wool stays on the farm or leaves with you.
What does sheep shearing cost per sheep include?
Spell out what the per-head charge covers and what costs extra. Travel, a farm-call minimum and wool bagging may be billed on top. Name each one you charge, so the bill matches the quote.
Say how you count the sheep you shear, so the owner can check the bill. If the owner sells or buys sheep before shearing day, ask for the new count.
Send me these for your sheep shearing website
Tell me which shearing jobs to list and where you travel. Include how the business got started and how flock owners should reach you. Add a few good photos from your shearing days. Send a logo too if your business uses one. What would you like the site to do for you? You can give me rough notes for all these items.
Send it all as one complete package and the cost is substantially lower. I spend less time collecting information or asking you to fill gaps, and more time building your page.
I bring my experience to the website and offer hosting at a reasonable rate. AI can take on much of the work, and I use it for your build. I finish the details, connect the site's parts and make sure they work together.
Questions a flock owner can settle before shearing day
Is my shearing date set once I send a request?
Not unless your page says so. Say whether a request holds a date or just puts the farm on your list. Then say how the owner learns the date is firm.
Who supplies the sheep shearing wool bags?
Say whether bags come with your service or the owner supplies them. If you offer bags separately, explain how the owner orders them before your arrival.
Does the flock count include lambs and rams?
Ask for ewes, rams and lambs as separate counts. If rams or lambs are charged differently from ewes, say so here.
Will my wool bags be marked as mine?
If you bag the wool, say how you mark each bag and who keeps the bag count. ASI's preparation sheet asks producers to label bags "with producer, bag number and contents."
Can you return for sheep missed on the booked day?
Wet sheep, or a few that weren't caught, can mean a second trip. Say whether you come back for them and whether that trip has its own charge.
Try one shearing page before you decide
My free test site offer gives you one important page to try. I host it temporarily while you evaluate the working page. You aren't required to buy the website. I will show you what the page could say.
